Annual Turkey Drive
For the past 10 years, our organization has proudly hosted the Annual Turkey Drive in Toronto’s inner city, specifically in the Upper Jarvis area. This initiative is built on generosity, community spirit, and the belief that every family deserves to enjoy a warm meal together during Thanksgiving.
Through donations and our own resources, we are able to purchase and obtain hundreds of turkeys each year. Over Thanksgiving weekend, we organize a full giveaway, where community members line up (often hours in advance) to receive their turkey. The atmosphere is filled with gratitude, joy, and connection, as families who may not otherwise be able to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner now have the chance to gather around the table with loved ones.
Since Thanksgiving in Toronto often comes with colder weather, we also pair the Turkey Drive with our clothing drive program. Alongside food, we distribute warm clothing, sleeping bags, toiletries, and other essentials to individuals in need. This helps ensure that as people head into the colder months, they do so with both nourishment and basic necessities.
To further support those without access to a stove or a home, we prepare and distribute hot, ready-made meals. This way, even individuals who are fully homeless can still experience kindness during Thanksgiving and enjoy a warm, comforting meal.
The Turkey Drive has become a beloved tradition in the community, uniting families, youth volunteers, and local residents. Beyond providing meals and essentials, it creates a sense of togetherness and hope, reminding us all of the power of giving back.
